Must come clean here and say I am not a real Geordie but from Lancashire.
The ship I was on (HMS Grenville) visited Newcastle in 1970 and met someone and lived here since 1974.
God bless Makems and Monkeyhangers!

Hi eljay and welcome, when were you last in Hartlepool? The harbour area is smart and a nice area to visit for the day.
A bit different from the years gone . I used to do a bit of fishing out of Hartlepool, good days.

Quite a collection you have. I joined the forum last week, as you can gather a wide rang of views and characters.

Best wishes. Leg end

last time i was in hartlepool was 1992, it had changed a lot then, would be unrecognisable to me now. used to swin in the coal dock, wooden staithes were still in use, could walk across the dock on the decks of the colliers, fishing boats busy as, all gone now, have no intention of going back, would be too painful remembering what it was like getting tesnews in my dotage.

Now although its arguable that your average monkey hanger is another species, they're certain they're not another race, so the word you were looking for was xenophobia

And mackem? Oot side, NOW! bangbang
