Re: Dismantling ammunition
At Powderhall dog track the pie supper was the sabotage method of choice when your greyhound was losing, one of them thrown in front of the dogs and the hare no longer held any interest for them.

Re: Dismantling ammunition
Aye Powderhall was always an entertaining night out even if you hated dog racing, there was always more action off the track than on.
I believe that it closed as dog track and became a speedway stadium. Probably built on by Barrets now.
Got its name from the gunpowder mills on the Water of Leith

Re: Dismantling ammunition
the authority to dismantle ammunition is given in the HSE manufacture and storage of explosive regulations (MSER 2005) .
9. (1) Subject to paragraph (2), no person shall manufacture explosives unless he holds a licence for that manufacture and complies with the conditions of that licence.
(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to —
(a)the manufacture of explosives for the purpose of laboratory analysis, testing, demonstration or experimentation (but not for practical use or sale) where the total quantity of explosives being manufactured at any time does not exceed 100 grams, but nothing in this sub-paragraph shall be taken as authorising any acquisition or keeping of explosives for which an explosives certificate is required by virtue of regulation 7 of those Regulations, without such a certificate;
(b)the making or unmaking of small arms ammunition, or the preparation of cartridges for use with firearms which are to be used at historical re-enactment events, where the total quantity of primer and propellant used at any one time does not exceed 2 kilograms and, for these purposes, the quantity of propellant used includes propellant removed from cartridges.
It does not restrict you to only dismantling your own reloads.

Re: Dismantling ammunition
Here is an interesting one, I have to deactivate some reasonably obscure rimfire and I just cannot cope with the idea of drilling holes in it to shake the powder out, it just seems wrong, the alternatives are not good, a kinetic hammer, alternatively I could devise some form of collet puller.
Suggestions anyone?

Collet puller no contest.

I read it the same way also Andy.andy h wrote:the authority to dismantle ammunition is given in the HSE manufacture and storage of explosive regulations (MSER 2005) .

Incidentally the regs are being amended I believe, and are out for consultation at the moment. I don't suppose that they will change that part of it but you never know.
Re: Dismantling ammunition
As long as it leaves no mark on the lead head and there is a way of clamping the base without stressing the rim..for obvious reasons.Alpha1 wrote:Collet puller no contest.
The other problem with pulling lead heads from factory rimfire is it often destroys the crimp and damages the bullet.
Its a difficult one to be fair.
Re: Dismantling ammunition
I have some 17HMR that is never going to pull with a collet due to he shape of the bullet.
