Blu ile just remind you that a .270 minimum caliber exist here for wild boar........u wanna take down animals with an inappropriate caliber then u go ahead......i have a high moral compass when it comes to this subject, and I will not be unfazed or get into any online debate about it....

the running man. Hang on a minute here mate, I didn't say that I hunt with a 17HMR, what I said was that there are people who do. My point was that the 17HMR will easily take down a fox was all. Like you I am very fussy about what I use to hunt and when I do hunt, well put it this way, when I shoot an animal it is done in such a way and with a calibre so as to cause as little suffering as possible to the animal if indeed any at all. In fact when I have to hunt coyotes which are similar in size to fox I usually use my AR15 or my 22-250.

BTW, the video of the guy with the 17HMR taking down the sow and her piglets, every one of those kills was a clean kill at about 50 - 70 yards. Also just because .270 is the minimum calibre over there, doesn't mean that the use of a lesser calibre is immoral. A .25 calibre round will kill a pig or a deer just as efficiently as .270 or a .308 round.

ide aggree and submit to you on your first paragraph but disagree with you respectfully on the second......again not getting drawn in.......In my experience the folk who argue that .17 does it all are usually the ones who are too tight to buy the proper gun....

I don't advocate that the 17HMR does it all by any means, I merely asked you why you would never use it on fox only at 10 yards or less when the round is capable of killing fox cleanly at greater distances. I don't know which part or all of my second paragraph you disagree with but I have hunted both deer and pigs with a 25-06 friend and I assure you that they have all died quickly and cleanly. As I stated earlier, just because the .270 rule says it's so, that doesn't make the rule right. When choosing a calibre to hunt one also takes into consideration the weight, penetration and destructive power of the round of any calibre. 117Grn bullet in a 25-06 will kill a deer or medium sized pig just as cleanly as a .270 and I say that from a lot of experience.

ok more seriously , i believe i saw on a 17 ammo box once it said 3km, but i would say thats as much true as a 22 at 1.5km
