I only raised the question about 22 WMR again because you only mentioned 22lr in relation to 22 rimfire and I just wanted to clarify.

If you wanted to push for 22WMR you could point to the higher energy level compared to the HMR and that the Home Office Guidance (2013:119) lists 22 WMR as suitable for fox.

Regarding the HO Guidance I think that is where the issue/confusion lies - it equates 22lr with 22 Rimfire and lists 22 WMR as a separate enitity even though we all know it is a rimfire!

Glad that the HO saw sense in opening this rnd up, Christ, you only have to see what the Aussies shoot with there's to see what a good rnd it is...

As for the copper fouling , nothing that a solvent & a bore scope wouldn't hurt or solve

17 HMR will kill a fox, but only up close when the bullet has enough energy to expand properly. It is not a particularly useful round for me because most of the foxes I shot over the years were further away. I stick with a 222 for everything now. Very flat and useful to about 300 yards. Could use 223, but for some reason I like the little triple.

Either way, HMR can be made to work, but if i am going to shoot specifically fox, I am unlikely to want an HMR to do it with.
