Trigger upgrade advice

Hi everyone,

I am seriously thinking about upgrading the trigger in my 15-22 to a Gieslie Super 3 Gun. I know 2 people who have these triggers in their .22 AR15's but they are both REALLY good shooters (and I am not) so asking them about the diference it made is kind of pointless. So the quesion is, for someone who is not that good but enjoys competition shooting, would this £300 trigger improve my grouping on double taps and my speed.

I'd love to hear from anyone that, like me, is not that good but has lots of fun and has upgraded their triggers; was it worth it?

£300 would probably be better spent on ammo and practice. Saying that I have on fitted to my BAR22 but don’t shoot it enough to say its better than any other trigger as its not used for any real precision work. Then of course you have to find one as lots of UK Dealers advertise them but don’t actually have any.

Change the trigger and disconector springs with JP Enterprises reduced power springs (leave the hammer spring stock), stone the bearing surfaces just to clean them up, not change the profile. This should cost you about a tenner and about 30 minutes of your time. This will give you a far nicer trigger pull than the stock trigger, which is still reliable.

Then as John says, spend the remaining £290 on ammo and range time....

+1 on the JP Yellow Springs; a no-brainer for the 15-22, and will make a marked difference to the stock trigger for the £10-15 or so cost. Also an excellent opportunity to get to know the FCG on your 15-22 smile2

That being said, I do have a Geissele SSA in my 15-22 and it is another level above... tongueout

Thanks for the replies. Should have said at the outset that I replaced the springs with the JP ones about 8 months ago and yes, they did make a difference. However, after almost 10 months and many thousands of rounds, I still find that I'm 'pulling' my shots on the double taps. 2 quick shots with this trigger seems to pull the shot high and to the right and when I try and compensate they go low and left.

Granted 10 months is not long in the grand scheme of things but wondered if a trigger upgrade is the next step to take or do I continue and try to gain a better trigger control with the stock one.

That being said, I do have a Geissele SSA in my 15-22 and it is another level above...

Was also considering this trigger but as it's a 2 stage I wasn't sure about using it in mini rifle comps.

+1 Spend the money on ammo and practice, dropping a £300 trigger into a £600 gun sounds to me, but if you've got the money to burn then its up to you.

Anyone can learn to shoot well with virtually any gun, especially if you're talking about fast & accurate, rather than precision shooting. I use a GSG-5 for mini-rifle comps which has a grinding sponge of a trigger and i've never had any problems keeping it in the A zone with double taps.

Have you tried one of these "go faster" triggers? Was your "problem" cured? I'd be surprised if it was. Believe it or not, I think you're trying to shoot too fast at the minute. Definitely outside your skill set, as harsh as that sounds. Slow it down, right down. Go for solid hits each time and the cliché that "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" will soon realise...

Not harsh at all and a very good point. I always intend on trying slow & steady but when that beep goes off and the adrenaline kicks in all plans go out the window.

I did try one of rifles with an upgraded trigger and my results were slightly better but it was a slightly easier course of fire than normal.

2-stage, with a clear take up, but easy to flow through for rapid shooting; hasn't been a problem for mini-rifle in my experience. I use it with the Geissele supplied hammer spring, but still use the JP Yellow trigger spring, and I don't think I would want a lighter trigger on a gun that I'm running about with between stages!

I fitted a Geissele SSA-E to a 22lr. Bolt needed a bit of polishing to stop the hammer holding it up. Works fine after a bit of work.
