Never thought of that badger, vandalism for sure.
Shooting at feet = reckless discharge of a firearm????? Methinks that would get you into trouble in a civilian scenario... Gun only to be used as last resort when life is in mortal danger, obviously not in danger if you are doing that.
A gun is a weapon not a signalling device.

I think that the bloke shooting the ground is not as a signalling method other than to signal that in real life he would have shot the bloke attacking him. So shooting the ground is to signal to the instructor/man in charge or whatever that he would have shot the bloke. Basically:- A shot to the ground means a kill shot to one of the attackers.
These people are not training for using firearms on a range, so range rules do not apply.
In fact in the circumstances these blokes work in, only a few simple rules apply, like :- Don't shoot yourself or your own side.
I wouldn't want our armed forces to have to unload and show clear then stand back from their weapons after each altercation between them an the enemy whilst an officer checked they had their breach flags in.
Just thinking out loud again. :)

Mark, I don't train on range mentality and I hear what you are saying. BUT what he is doing is building "muscle memory" that will make him do just that under stress - shoot at the ground.
All this "unload and show clear" stuff is bollox when doing tactical or self defence training. For target shooters yes, but if you are going to carry a gun on duty etc then at least have enough common sense to know what you are doing with it. How can people learn to live with and carry a gun if they are always faffing with it. Trouble is the bigger the group more chance of someone doing summat daft. Amazing how many people faff about with their handgun when it is holstered.
Just keep loaded unless it's not needed, that way there's no confusion about "is it loaded or not". Guns are always loaded, even when not IMO.
