My old Browning Auto 5

#1 Post by carlsenior »

Here's my old Belgian FN Browning Auto 5 dating from around 1963 (we think! ) I've had this for well over 20 years and it was getting very tired, the original fore-end was cracked and had had numerous repairs so it wasn't good to shoot :bad:
So I thought i'd give the old girl a makeover!
A new fore-end is silly money over here so I pushed the boat out and had Boyds in the USA make me a custom laminated stock and fore-end for less than the price fore-end alone in the UK (fitted in around 2 hours)
As there was next to no finish left on the action and barrel it was painted with high temperature green stove paint just to add to the camo look ;)
It's not used often but at least now I can use it as it shoots really well and with a ventilated polychoke (slug to extra full choke) it can be used for anything :goodjob:

Lovely - I had an Auto 5 back in the seventies. It was quite a fussy eater but a joy to shoot.

This sounds interesting, was it a custom colour (ie. do they stock stocks for the Auto 5 already) or a "full" custom commission?

I have a project involving an Auto 5 but I'm waiting on a certain person to pull his finger out....

Saddler will be along presently as no doubt his senses will be tingling at the mention of an Auto 5 on the forum!

Nice colour, by the way.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

They make a standard set for the A5 in different grades of walnut, I paid extra for the laminate version and recoil pad
