Up until now just being a member of the UKPSA (or more recently F4i) deems you a qualified person. Whether or not they actually mean someone who has been on the 2 day safety course, an RO or someone even further up the chain has never been tested in court AFAIK.breacher wrote:

Approved by what person / authority ?
Is there any mention of your rifle target shooting needing to be "approved" ?

So, with that condition, you could not practice or plink on your own as you would NOT be in compliance ?
Seems strange they add that when its not needed with rifle target shooting.

Re: Section 1 application wording
As long as you're a UKPSA or F4i member you can 'approve' you're own course. Just more pointless b0ll0cks created around S1 shotguns by poorly thought out legislation tesnews

Re: Section 1 application wording
its not poorly thought out legislation that brought this about, it was applied at the behest of ACPO/FELWEG acting on pressure from a shooting group.
Its very badly worded and my FEO said ignore it as long as you are only shooting S2 ammo on land with permission. They get uptight about you using slug anywhere but on a range.
We have been trying to get more sensible wording that suits all user groups but vested interests have been meddling.
If any (NRA member) has a specific problem email me,
regards
james

Re: Section 1 application wording
If The Firearms Act 1988 had've been properly thought out/written in the first place none of this carry on for FAC shotguns would be necessary

Re: Section 1 application wording
Found out yesterday that you can have a lever action shotgun with the 12/24 dimensions because they missed them out of the wording limiting you to a 24" min barrel length.
Re: Section 1 application wording
mackie, I have heard this before however I am yet to find anyone owning such a thing here in the UK. Do you have any further information?
Re: Section 1 application wording
It was just a discussion that came up because someone at my local club (section captain, RFD, and long time shooter) just picked up a Norinco 1887 copy and he happened to mention the gap in the rules. Probably a good way to raise some eyebrows with the police though! How about a pistol grip and 20" barrel?

Re: Section 1 application wording
A guy had one at my PSG club but it wouldn't run well so he got rid of it. It looked great, I think it was a Norinco

That worked. S1 shotgun granted with 300 slug no questions asked.zanes wrote:In the middle of my last variation letter:
"The other new “slot” applied for is a 12 bore shot gun (and Section 1 ammunition for said shot gun).
The primary “Good Reason” for this shot gun and Section 1 ammunition is Target Shooting on
approved ranges, however additional conditioning for the shot gun is requested for Target Shooting
over an approved course of fire and Clay Pigeon Shooting (additional conditions requested in accordance with Appendix 3 of the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law 2013 publication. Clay Pigeon Shooting to
exclude Section 1 ammunition).
As per Paragraph 2.50 of the Guide on Firearms Licensing Law 2013 publication an additional
ammunition allowance for Section 2 Shot Gun ammunition is not requested."
A little convoluted and I actually screwed up slightly by asking for bird/vermin control (long story, I'd misunderstood a couple of paragraphs (10.38, 10.44) in the guidance).
I asked for 300 slug- bear in mind there's no longer a buy/hold distinction.
Not yet heard back so don't take this as gospel!
