Belgian!

#1 Post by svandamme »

Good Morning,

I'm new to the forum , shooter from Ypres Belgium, (you know, that big old two way Shooting Range in 14-18).

Already have done the Trafalgar last year with my 1903A3, loved Shooting at Bisley a lot.
We don't have ranges like this in Belgium.. just a couple of crowded closed 100 meter ranges with electronic targets
and the military range in Leopoldsburg, that doesn't have any buts for markers.. So we don't see the hits past 200.. and can't correct on previous shots.

So now NRA member, have safety card for TR and Scoped rifle.
And was told this was the place to find people to share a marker with.
So here i am.

Oh, i also started a Facebook Group last year, European Long Range Shooting in Europe.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/634958359867216/

It's where we learn about shooters and shooting ranges across europe.. 550 members already and still growing.
It's centered around a Google Maps we are building, trying to document all the Ranges that are more then 300 meters.

Best regards,
Stijn

Welcome to the forum Stijn, I have been following the FB European Long Range Shooting Group for a while however I was not really sure who started it. Also the map function you have is superb and a handy reference even though you seem to have all of my favourite ranges already listed. Now that you are here can you tell me at some point how to set a google map up like this, the forum has one for members however it seems to be broken these days.

Just read the rules.. Glad to see that "Belgian" isn't listed in the swear filter yet (See Monthy Python sketch)

Not sure how the google maps now works, there is a new Google maps. And it's rather different..
So far all i figured out is, that i'm happy my google maps link still works and remains old style

But normally you had to login to google, and then click "my maps" name it, and then start putting up placemarkers

is there are specific thread for finding people to share markers with at Bisley?
thinking of coming next saturday, but hogging a lane and marker on my own seems both impractical and expensive/wasteful.

Talked to Tony Short on FB , he told me to come to this forum for that kind of stuff

Hi Stijn,

Welkom bij FB-UK.

On the weekends I live in the next town to Bisley, but during the week I'm based in Antwerpen, so I'm a kind of part-time Belgian.

You can post here (in the Announcements section) to find someone to share a target with. On the weekend there's a good chance you'll be in luck. I ended-up on my own last Friday (which wasn't a holiday/bridge in the UK), but I quite like to shoot intensively and it's slightly cheaper on weekdays so I had a great morning and I can still feel that I've done some serious shooting. I think the marker got a pretty good workout too.
