Have you watched Generation Kill (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0995832/.
Its a HBO mini series, sort of band of brothers for Iraq.

Very gritty and enjoyable.

Also The Shooter http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0822854/

Touches on difficulties on long range shooting and not a bad plot.

Rifle-based films? Zulu Dawn; Breaker Morant (of Rule 303 fame); Quigley Down Under; Tremors; Day of the Jackal; Lawrence of Arabia (all 3 hours of it); True Grit; Hot Fuzz...

The last film I watched was RoboCop 2014 and I thought it was really well done, good actors (not cheesy at all), loved the original. The remake of Battlestar Galactica series is epic if you like SciFi, I can't recommend it enough, absolutely stunning and gripping story line to boot. "Elysium" is quite good as well, excellent South African baddie. "Prometheus" was very good and if you like horror films and sci-fi, there's nothing better than "Event Horizon."

In terms of war films, the few excellent beasties I can think of is "Murphy's War", "Kelly's Heros", "Das Boot" and "We were Soldiers."

A few more random excellent films would be "Jacob's Ladder", "Donnie Darko", "Twin Town", "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest", "Mosquito Coast", "The Shinning", "Freddie got Fingered", "12 Monkeys", "300."

I love films and I've got a fair selection of DVD's, I could real of 100's if you want... If you're really after WWI films I have a couple of reasonable films you probably haven't seen, so let me know.
