Hi the front hand guard on my AR slides over a big round nut sort of thing, then there are 2 talk screws underneath the hand guard that you tighten up and it just squashes the guard onto the round nut thing.
Are all hand guards held in place like this ? im thinking of changing mine that's all.

Whats a "talk screw"?

Depends what make of handguard you have.

The AR is based on a barrel nut, to which various forend units can be attached...the style of nut on yours may be different

It sounds to me like you have one of the non-float type of railed hand guard, or possibly one of the no gunsmithing ones, done up with Ford screws possibly

It shouldn't be too hard to get off, finding a suitable replacement and fitting it might be slightly more tricky.

If you have a picture I can help more no doubt. Drop me a pm if you have trouble, or need a tool, getting it off or replacement on.

Ive tried to load some pics trying to explain how my handguard fit to my gun but I cant get them to load ,sorry.

there is a size limit on pictures, try uploading to something like photobucket or similar and posting a link.
