Can someone tell me what causes a rifle to not feed or eject right, and is there anything that can be done to stop it happening ?

Depends on the rifle, give some details.

Start with giving the rifle and magazine a good clean.

Rimfire, centre fire? Semi, bolt, lever?

CMMG semi 22lr I have just changed the springs in the trigger as well, but to be honest it did it before I changed them, plus I used a new 10 round mag I got from midway, and the hold open didn't seem to work as good, I checked the mag to see if the ammo was getting stuck in it but the ammo was coming of the mag fine, any ideas people ?

It won't be the trigger spring, is it a Failure to Feed FTF or a Failure to Eject, or both?

If you have a CMMG BHOA fitted take it out and then try.

Is the chamber fouled in any way?

No chamber should be ok, I cleaned everything while I was doing the trigger springs.
