dirty cases with black powder

hi everyone ,

I use a 45/120 with black powder and I'm struggling to clean the cases after use ?

tumbling doesn't get rid of the stains
coke doesn't get rid of the stains
scotchbrite, coke and a tumble gets them clean but it's a real time consuming fag !

anybody got any tips on how to get the cases clean a bit quicker or easier?

How long are you leaving them before cleaning? They need to be soaked in some sort of hot detergent mix as soon as possible. It's the leaving them soiled that causes the staining I believe.

Ceramic media is far superior to manage than those bloody pins and cleans just as well. Ceramic is what I use for my black powder cases.

A bloke on our range brings a gallon plastic container half filled with cleaning solution in which he puts his cases in as he shoots.

Not sure what the solution is but I suppose anything the wets the cases would work.

Will they do primer pockets? I am interested.

Depends on the size of the media.

My angle cut cylinders are quite large and don't fully clean the pockets in couple of hours there is still a visible black ring in the pocket corner. If I gave it another couple of hours then it comes out clean. As I usually uniform the primer pockets each time it cleans the pockets anyway. If you don't uniform, what is left it the pocket doesn't make a difference on the target or effect performance.

thanks lads , i'll try researching a solution to pop them in straight after firing ?

i'll also look into different medias , I've always been put off stainless pins because I'm messy and I can imagine them all over the floor!

I did try tumbling them for 24hrs in walnut media and it didn't work , is stainless/ceramic more aggressive?

I gave up tumbling years ago---I want the cases clean, shiny is nice but not really needed. My black powder cases are sprayed inside and out with Cillit Bang (I know that the adverts are terrible, but the product is good), and then they go straight into an ultra-sonic cleaner. The black goes--inside and out---- and they are left a dull brass olour.
