It has started, project 6.5x47

#1 Post by ovenpaa »

At long last I have found the stock, this one is coming via reloading International (Thanks Mike Gregg)

Next on the shopping list:

Tikka M595 Action
1:8 500mm X 28mm Diameter barrel chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua screw cut for moderator
6X or 10X 'scope, I have a S&B in mind but I could equally be tempted by a Kahles ZF95 which although heavier gives me greater flexibility.

The plan is to get the barrel chambered and nailed to the action by someone (Hopefully the man that has built rifles for us in the past) I will do the stock work, final inletting and will bed the action.

What have I missed?

Depends on the Action I manage to find but I suspect it is going to be a nice boring blued finish 8-)

There is a bit of a trend at the moment to have a coloured barrel, deep red looks good but I am not sure I have the nerve to do such a thing

Ovenpaa, Erm how about a trigger :-)

Very good point Mike!

Apparently the M595 triggers are good as standard and there are a couple of after market options available. My preference has always been two stage so trigger choice is going to be dependant on what comes with the Action which hopefully will give me the trigger guard and action screws as well.

I talked about a new 600m rifle three years ago but never could find something that set me alight so to speak, then I watched a hunting comp in DK last September and thought yup, this is for me.

Oddly for me it will be a factory chamber but should be accurate even with a fairly skinny Action and barrel. Despite the fairly traditional appearance it will have a 'signature' of some sort. Right now I am thinking of deep maroon barrel 8-)
