10 bore any good for clays?
So, I'm still not a great shot at clays, but would a 10 bore give me a larger kill area?
Or is it seen as unfair?

There's no reason why you can't use a 10 bore, but you may be punished by the recoil after a few shots.bigfathairybiker wrote:So, I'm still not a great shot at clays, but would a 10 bore give me a larger kill area?

The 12 is the usual favourite, followed by the 20.

Isn't that a bit like buying a slightly faster car, which runs on much more expensive fuel, that you can't use on numerous race tracks, to shave a few seconds off a lap time that more training would get you with the car you still own?!
Get some coaching if you want to improve and you're getting nowhere with your current technique If you REALLY wanted to just add more firepower to solve the 'problem', buy a Lee Loadall and make your own 12b cartridges - 50g of #9 should kill virtually any clay target

Some of the grounds I've been to have limits on shot size & total shot WEIGHT
IF you want to increase the pattern, look into reloading using spreader inserts.

Oh Damn... there goes another excuse to buy another gun.
Reloading sounds good.
But I suppose I really should get some more training.
And maybe a 12b that actually fits.
I've been using everyone else's gun lately and results vary wildly.
It wouldn't hurt to buy a 10 bore though... It would look nice in the cabinet.
Maybe a bit much for practical though...

Why not use a Punt Gun with a 4oz load!

Give yourself a challenge and use a .22LR lever action.

Splendid idea. My Dad has one on the wall. Just need to get it checked out as it looks a bit tatty.Polchraine wrote:Why not use a Punt Gun with a 4oz load!

Only thing is you would certainly need a bearer/loader for that!

My dear fellow I found the solution to your problem. You can try writing to "ManuFrance" ...
Here is the cartridge side by side with a 12 gauge
For the gun, here is a page from the catalogue ...
The flat cap is optional ....
Go on ... It gonna be cool and I make a mean duck terrine au cognac ...
