12 gauge restrictions ?
hi guys this is just a post that i hope will draw information from the people that are in the know about shotgun laws and their intended uses .
i own only own one shotgun and it is a plastic fantastic 12 guage hatsan escort (semi auto) i bought it new as i wanted somthing cheap reliable and robust and it has given me nothing but joy , i have shot it at my local clubs target shotgun competition for two years now having finished with a 3rd and 1st place with it great shotgun .
my questions are these , i have often wondered about shotgun slugs ,my gun has a interchangeable choke system would i be able to shoot slugs through this gun ? and can anybody that holds a shotgun certificate buy shotgun slugs ?
my familiy also own a small 12 acre patch of land that i like to regulary go for a walk on with my 12 gauge in hand , i very rairly shoot it but it has been known . i was recently stopped by a bloke that has some land close to ours because his misses had some concerns about seeing someone walking about with a shotgun under his arm , my response was that i wasnt breaking any laws , i am fully licensed hense no crime was being commited .
was i right ?
some gun porn to .

In short - no. Slugs are Section 1. You need an FAC and good reason to purchase slugs.and can anybody that holds a shotgun certificate buy shotgun slugs ?

It's the old lawful authority and reasonable excuse thing.
You need permission of the landowner and tenant if the land is on lease. You're best getting it in writing...our Police here provides a form.
To avoid embarrassment and the risk of an ARU turning up and generally spoiling one's day I tell the Police where I'm going and with what...but that's not a legal requirement
Cue Rob's s1 Xtrema2 bangstick again...

sweet looking shotgun robin , the land belongs to my mum so no problem there and my dad always had the land cleared to use .22rf as it was a working poultry farm and all sorts of vermin would attack the chickens and eat their feed .
it does however seem a very good idea to carry some kind of formal permission to be on the land with a shotgun . thanks again robin .

Yep,provided you have permission then thats fine and it dont have to be on paper either-verbal will do.I got asked once-by a pair of women dog walkers who didnt like the fact i was shooting pigeons and the gunshot was frightening their dogs, but left with egg of their faces when i politely explained they were actually tresspassing and there was no public right of way through this land so had to walk back the way they came.idge wrote:my response was that i wasnt breaking any laws , i am fully licensed hense no crime was being commited .

I dont carry any sort of written permission on farms, but Cambs Police do have common sense and dont harass shooters in fields.I've had the force chopper fly low over me numerous times when its been going to/from jobs and they would have seen me easily, but never had any comeback. Its not like rough shooters here are masquearding as the east anglian branch of the taliban!

I don't think that anyone answered your question re slugs and chokes?
Yes you can and possibly should use a choke when using slugs. You will notice your groups tightening up. It depends on the slug that you you are shooting, I think I have a quarter or half choke in mine,
As you are shooting target shotgun competitions you would be in a good position to request a Sec 1 shotgun should you be interested.
