checking out a shotgun

#1 Post by bigfathairybiker »

I am thinking of going to look at a shotgun locally which is a "fabarm brescia mod ellegi" according to the owner. It is a 12b semi 3 shot.
I havent been able to get any other info.
He wants £250 for it.

What should I be looking for when checking it over?

This would be my first shotgun, so I havent a clue apart from general cosmetic condition.

Thanks

Mark

Is it going on an S2 ticket? Can't have a 3 shot on an S1 apparently.

If S2 is a shotgun cert then yes.

"3 shot" = 2+1. Which is definitely S2.

Unpopular or obscure semi auto shotguns I would stay away from if I was you. Break a part, render the thing utterly useless. I have many a friend that have been down that road...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Thanks Sim, the thought did cross mind initially and fell out the other side.
I suppose I really need to leave this one alone.
A trip down the local gun shop is needed.

I know they're hated but you can easily get a Hatsan for £250 and there are loads of spares about

Had my Hatsan semi since 2007, cost me £265 and has had well over 10,000 cartridges through it, everyone kept saying it would break so I bought a Mk3 version, that sat in the cabinet unused for 2yrs so I sold it!. Also got a Hatsan Silver Synthetic Optima O/U, just had to tweak a spring in the trigger mech but apart from that it's been superb.

+1 :good:

For the price, you really can't fault them, and on the plus side you get a new gun guarantee plus a good service back-up and supply of spares.
