Re: Mossberg 500 Mags
I believe that they are sweated in - damn difficult to remove without damage.
After I left the UK I tried to get the crimp removed from the magazine tube of my Remington 870 - or failing that a new magazine tube installed. Every gunsmith has told me the same thing - they have tried it before and it has always been a failure - won't even try it again. Their advice - live with it or flog it off so somebody who doesn't care that their magazine only holds two rounds.
Anybody there want a Remington 870 Express Magnum?? Just kidding.

I did a fair bit of research into going the "S2 to S1 conversion" route. Included in this was looking at the current standards for S2 mag restriction (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... s-2010.pdf), the availability of S2 pumps (not in your case, as it sounds like you've got one already), the price of S1 versus S2 pumps and the parts cost/availability, the cost of having an RFD do the "paper upgrade" and other factors.
After this, I went and bought a "natively" S1 supernova that the previous owner had added the nordic magazine to.

PSG doesn't have to be expensive - I'm a novice but I beat the UKPSA chairwoman and few other shooters on a couple of stages with an absolute box fresh 930 at £730 and about 150 quids worth of belt (tacom quad loads I went for). Yeah I got my a55 handed to me on the first few stages (Case in point, first two were slug stages which I'd never fired and didn't know exactly where they'd go!!!), but they're a friendly bunch and give out loads of advice without being condescending and you'll soon get better.SevenSixTwo wrote:I could but not sure yet whether I want to go down the PSG route due to the expense.
Want the 930 Pro but there's little point if an S2 can't be 'upgraded' (which I'm certain it can't be).
My advice, go for the JM Pro 930 or maybe a Stoeger or anything 2nd hand that has been made ready for comp (as long as it'll keep you in standard class) and go from there. Don't go for a box fed right from the off as you'll be straight into the open class shooting against some exceptional people.
I also wouldn't go for a pump - not from the off (but definately later on!) even the good guys short stroke one every now and then - at which point you're burning through time to clear it.
Re: Mossberg 500 Mags
Too true. I short-shuck now and again even at sporting clays but I still manage to raise a few eyebrows, score-wise, with my 24" pump amongst the 'old guard'!
I contacted a potential vendor for a Sect 2 JM 930 Pro and they said that the mag tubes "cannot easilly be removed" and would need a specialist. Well, if that's the case, how will I be able to clean the gas system?..

Check the spec I linked to above- that's exactly what the spec calls for.SevenSixTwo wrote:I contacted a potential vendor for a Sect 2 JM 930 Pro and they said that the mag tubes "cannot easilly be removed" and would need a specialist. Re: Mossberg 500 Mags
Having looked at a video, all that requires removal is the extension tube so should be good to go. Thanks.
Re: Mossberg 500 Mags
Yes, it's that which is permanently attached; I had assumed the entire mag + extension.

Re: Mossberg 500 Mags
I have a 600 which is supposed to be the same as the 500 but with a different way of attaching the forend wood.
The way I unscrewed the magazine tube was to attach a cheap scope mount to it, tighten it up nice and tight and then use it as a lever to unscrew the tube. You need to attach it right at the very end so that you don't dent the tube
Worked great.

Never argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
