With this method it is only necessary to clean the barrels once a month.

Re: Anyone use tampons?
+1 a single square of kitchen roll fits perfectly into a 12b barrel and gets that squeak/squeal as you push it down the barrel so you know its getting everything off.25Pdr wrote:I just use a wee dod of paper kitchen towel. razz
1/ Spray down barrel with Napier gun cleaner
2/ Push 1 square of dry kitchen roll down barrel to get heavy off
3/ Spray barrel again
4/ Rod barrel with bronze brush
5/ Push another square of dry kitchen roll down to get remainder off
6/ Repeat 3-5 as necessary
Costs a fraction of proper patches (Bisley etc) and way, way less than using tampons

Re: Anyone use tampons?
The only reason I brought this up was due to a search for shotgun barrel cleaning on google and using tampons was one of the main links that came up!
It had to be investigated.
I suppose next on the list is using condoms for black powder in a muzzle loader. But I think there may be a bit of a problem ramming them down the barrel and you would need one hell of a cap to get thro to the powder.

They are often used over the end of the barrel to stop mud and water getting in when in swampy areas. Protects from ingress and no need to remove if a shot is needed in a hurry.bigfathairybiker wrote:
