Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
Y'know, it is and all. Not sure if there's enough elevation on the rearsight, though. Annoyingly none of our TR rearsights can be swapped from fullbore to .22s (except possibly the two good competition TRs, depending what rearsights are fitted to those), and in any case there is nowhere at Bisley to zero a prone .22 TR unless your club has a banker's draft on Fort Knox or you have an obliging individual NRA member to hand who'll give up an hour or two to get a rough zero on your behalf.Charlie Muggins wrote:Isn't the vostok in the... Gaz - If you've got access to a 25m range then you can use one of these:
This is a sample of a .22 25m zero card - It was given to me so I don't know where you get them from, but it would be easy to make one...the 100m mark is 51mm above the lower target and the 200m mark is 168mm above the same point...
...just make sure you've still got 27 minutes left on your elevation to get you to 300m...

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
The main issue is the availability of RF-certified short ranges at Bisley. Zero Range is CF only due to the ricochet risk. ROT single lane rental on Melville is generally only available to individual NRA members (neither of us is) and the less said about the Lord Roberts Centre the better.Dougan wrote:Gaz - If you've got access to a 25m range then you can use one of these:

Gaz and I have no personal transport and are forced to store our rifles on-site, so our more local smallbore ranges (at which we use club rifles) are not much help.

I know it costs money, but as you guys live near Bisley and clearly need to use the facilities, would 75 quid a year not be a worthwhile investment...?

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
I see where you are coming from and it would be cheaper still for my first year's membership but it's an added expense to an already expensive hobby, on top of range hire for which I would be paying anyway. I'm not at a stage in any discipline to go in for serious comps, I always shoot on club-booked targets, I can't afford to go on NRA courses and I don't need additional shooting insurance. Except for the ability to hire NRA rifles I would essentially be paying for the privilege of paying to use slack space.Dougan wrote:I know it costs money, but as you guys live near Bisley and clearly need to use the facilities, would 75 quid a year not be a worthwhile investment...?

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
There's still some places if anyone fancies a go at .22 Long Range next Sunday - Closing date for entries is Wednesday, so I'd recommend phoning the shooting division to confirm your entry...
...if you can't get your sights sorted for 400 and 500 yards, you can just shoot the morning at 100, 200 and 300 yards

Re: Long range .22lr shooting at Bisley
Just to let folk know; there's another .22 Long Range event at Bisley on October 11th.
It's an afternoon only, shot at 200 and 300 yards - 5 sighters (last two convertible) and 15 to count at each distance...
...If you've got an old .22 TR rifle that you're not shooting much anymore, this is a great way to get some serious enjoyment out of it...
...and they'll be some 'liquid' prizes at the end of the day tongueout
If anyone wants details PM me...entries are open until October 4th.
