Question Re Bremmer Arms 22 (M-16)
Had a look at a Bremmer Arms .22 in a nearby gunshop today. Felt nice to hold. Made the Bora feel big and bulky
If nothing else it needed a really good clean.
The fore-end felt a bit loose but I was more concerned about the play between the upper and the lower. I know there isn't really any comparison but the upper and lower on my Bora are rock solid. I was surprised how much the upper on the Bremmer wobbled.
Is a bit of play between the upper and lower on AR-15 style rifles normal?
The other big problem was the fixed carry handle.
Is there any great problem with sticking a scope on top of the carry handle?
Would it be possible to get hold of a flat top receiver to fit?
It's half the price of any of the new AR 22's out there and the Bremmers are supposed to be quite good but I suspect it's still more trouble than it's worth.

An accuwedge will sort out any play between the receivers, and yes you can swap the uppers for a flat top but this would cost a few hundred quid. You can get scope mounts for the carry handle and they are cheap but I'd say keep it as it is and enjoy shooting it with irons as they are very accurate. You can get BDM mags too, what's not to like ?

Nice collection
If you could only have one which would you choose?
I'm considering stretching the budget to an M&P 15-22 or a CMMG.

Re: Question Re Bremmer Arms 22 (M-16)
I've got a CMMG, love it to bits but it was a fussy bugger to get running right (which it now does).
If you want reliability - the M&P 15/22 owners all swear by em, - the mag design appears to be one of the most significant factors in that reliability.
For eg, my CMMG came with the Mk3 mags - which were terrible, I switched to black dog mags which were better, but it wasn't until I switched to the Lantac mags (which appear 90% identical to Black Dog) that I got the reliability I was after.
The CMMG upper and lower were tight when new, but after a few range trips and a couple of thousand rounds there's a bit of play.
So, for my 2 cents - get the M&P if you want reliability and don't care for a forward assist (which I might use once in oooh 5000 rounds).
I like the look of that Bremmer with the fixed carry handle, if I had a spare slot I'd look to get one and convert it into an original looking rifle (muzzle etc) as per original Vietnam issue!

...so, you can replace the fixed carry handle assembly to retro fit the A1 rear sight unit?nickb834 wrote:I like the look of that Bremmer with the fixed carry handle, if I had a spare slot I'd look to get one and convert it into an original looking rifle (muzzle etc) as per original Vietnam issue!
Bremmer rifles are good.
Always wanted one of their A2 versions, just never in the right place at the right time
(Used to have a Colt AR15A2 Sporter II - bought it new when I was 19 for £550)

When you were 19 you could buy a house in Sunderland for 550 quid.....
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Question Re Bremmer Arms 22 (M-16)
I was lucky and managed to get a M4 Bremmer variant for £200 at the game fair this year. No mag but I got some black dog 24 rounders from Suffolk Rifle Company. I am really pleased with the gun, it is solid and very accurate. I have no receiver wobble on mine, the only thing about it that isn't that brilliant is the trigger which is a bit heavy and difficult to read. Reliability has been good so far but I think you need to find the right ammo for it - mine seems to run perfectly with RWS Semi Auto. You get bolt hold open via the mag follower but once you take the mag out the bolt goes forward. You can lock the bolt back though. I think these are lovely rifles for the money.
As for a scope I got a G&P 4x20 carry handle scope for 50 quid. Despite being sold via Airsoft retailers the instructions seem to imply the scope was designed for use on real rifles (zero at 100 yards with bullet drop adjustments to 500 yards etc). The reticle is a bit coarse but it actually works very well.

Re: Question Re Bremmer Arms 22 (M-16)
Not without a fair bit of effort I wouldn't have thought, but a rough facismile of an A1 would be the aim. Of course I'd have to remove the forward assist and the case deflector, and if going to that effort might aswell mill out the rebate as per A1 rear sight.saddler wrote:

TBH - only really considered it due to it being fixed carry handle and the relative cheapness of the Bremmers - but having thought about it for more than 30 seconds - not worth the effort!

How times change, they pay you now to take a house in Sunderland.Sim G wrote:

Sunderland derives from the old norse word for s***.
Still Middlesbrough can make it seem attractive.

BTW the M16A1 had a forward assist, but most didn't have the case deflector. It was the M16 that didn't have either.
