Buy the gun that fits you best within your budget.

O/U's are much of a muchness when buying new and there aren't really any guns to avoid in principle (waiting for someone to find some obscure gun make that drops apart when you breathe on it tesnews ). Some makes retain their resale value better than others, but if you're going to run the gun into the ground thats not really a concern. Buying 2nd hand is a different kettle of fish.

The only things off the top of my head to consider (other than fit and cost), are;

1/ What is it primarily going to be used for i.e. clays or game/pests
2/ Fixed or multi-choke
3/ Barrel length
4/ Auto or manual safety

Answering #1 will lead most of the other questions

Get yourself to your local clay club/ground and try as many as possible

Just noticed your home club is CSAC, if you go along to the clay shoots on Sundays (they're usually on when i go to CSAC for PSG - i.e. this Sunday). There is usually a good selection of guns on the rack, so if you ask nicely you should be able to try a few.

Say hello if you see me (i wear a light coloured Fullbore forum baseball cap with Blackstuff on it!)
