As for semi autos I have never had a problem at any
ground I shot mine at, except for the one time when I fired
three cartridges at the one clay.

I was told off for using 3 instead of 2 :)

At one of the grounds I use it's against the rules to load three. Much to the chagrin of my girlfriends dad. He had been banging on about trying a semi instead of our beretta O/Us, not being a fan of them and loving my gun I couldn't really understand why, but I borrowed one for him, then it be came clear. "Ha! I can have three shots you only get two..." Queue major bottom lip tantrum when I point out the ground rule and explained it's seen as unsporting.

If you need to blast three shots at a single clay, it's time to let that particular one go :)

When you are training or shooting for a score or improvement yes, but when someone is just out to have a laugh and having their first attempt then crack on, just enjoy pulling the trigger and feel the bang!

I used to have the Benelli Supersport, probably the best SA on the market at the time, tactical(ish) looking and a real joy to shoot. You can pick one up s/h for around £1200 too.

I've now gone a bit old school, binned the Sa and now shoot a £75 SxS for that "get off my land" experience.

First broke the clay
second broke the larger part again
third broke the rest.

First and last time ever, because as stated 3 was

Yes it's the same at the grounds where I shoot,
but at some of the turn up, pay your money,
release and score your own there is no policing
how many are fired.

The time I got told, I was being cheeky and he did
not find it funny when I explaned I was only counting
my first and third shot.

Just for the record here is an example of what a proper shotgun looks like, Coates of Woolsingham.

I have killed a few clays along with furred and feathered beasts using black powder cartridges in this fine 10 bore.

I don't shoot clays and don't know anything about shotguns but would love to own something like that
