ISSC MK22 > SCAR 17 H project

#1 Post by jay851 »

hi
decided to not sell the issc mk22 and instead turn it into a winter project.

the mk22 is a scar clone but there a several parts of it that dont look like a proper scar and look quite toyish, so have decided to try and
get it to look like a scar as much as i can.

Image

the first part im starting on is the lower. it is very bulky and made as a one piece moulded part, with no option to change the grip.
i started to look at airsoft lowers and after measuring up, realised that the mk22 lower is so bulky that it is a fair bit longer than a scar 16 lower, and nearer the scar 17 h, so that is the route im taking. this means i will have to make new mag internals, which will fit inside the scar h outer shell. i have managed to get the mk22 trigger mech inside the H lower, and secure. it is still quite a sqeeze length wise, even in the H lower, but its in. the only problem now is the selector which sits lower than in the scar H, so will have to fill the old hole and make a new one. other parts that need looking at are the stock, the front sight/gas block and some external parts, but i think it is doable..........hopefully :)

and this is the inspired look that im aiming for.

The SCAR 17 is the only one still in service (the 16 was phased out) so it's the way to go, IMO. Good luck.

If you're going to be using airsoft donors, I'd advise you go Tokyo Marui or VFC - none come close to accuracy, particularly where the finish and colour rendition (particularly the gold metallic) is concerned. Avoid 'DBoys' and other clones like the plague - they're hideous!

If you're gonna do it - might as well do it right!

decided to make an extended tri rail for the front end. will be making a one piece top rail as the mk22 rail is in three pieces.
also added the side blocks and have had to relocate some holes on the lower, so they will need filling, but taking shape.
still waiting for a scar front sight to turn up.

When you say make - do you mean you milled those rails yourself?

Wish I had access to a milling machine - there's a firm in the states that sells a prebuilt (as in ready to go out the box) cnc mill that will finish off 80% lowers for AR's - very nearly ordered one (thousand quid I think) as it's capable of so much more.
