Re: NOOOB Checking in.
If you use your civilian firearm to shoot a bunny, it's a weapon right?

the bunny probably doesn't give a what you call it, but yes generally we in the civvy world prefer the term firearm so we don't upset any sandal wearing, lettuce eating, cuddle the world typessafetyfirst wrote:If you use your civilian firearm to shoot a bunny, it's a weapon right?
Alan
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Not in my opinion, the public perception is key, if we are not careful we will end up with nothing.safetyfirst wrote:If you use your civilian firearm to shoot a bunny, it's a weapon right?

Re: NOOOB Checking in.
Weapon also implies conflict.
I have only once ever had to defend myself from a rabbit, in that instance it was my fist that was the weapon.
When using your firearm for live quarry it is a tool or implement just like a scythe, spade or such like.

And yet the police are more than happy to use the word weapon when used in conjunction with a civilian firearm..........

Re: NOOOB Checking in.
I have this every time I speak with licensing departments. They phone me up to discuss some "weapon" transaction, I tell them I don't have any weapons and the conversation goes semantically downhill from there. Even when I point out to them that I am a registered firearms dealer, RFD. Not a registered weapons dealer which would be RWD.
I think it is deliberate ploy by the police to call them weapons as they think all legitimate firearms owners are murdering psycopaths and shouldn't have guns anyway.

Re: NOOOB Checking in.
That's not how Derbyshire treat us, less of the "they", crap people are everywhere, my FEO is a shooter, so was the last one and the ladies that run the licensing are superb. If only I got the same levels of customer service elsewhere. (Long wait times due to underfunding not withstanding)
Re: NOOOB Checking in.
Wow!!
I see I made an impression then. My bad.
I make no apologies for the terminology used, I guess I will eventually get my head round not only the terminology, 30yrs worth of hands on and I guess I still don't actually know what to call em. Though to me a gun is a shotgun, cannon or artillery piece. :-)
Firearm it is.

Re: NOOOB Checking in.
Hi all and thank you for the welcome from those that posted.
I have, read the rules and agreed to a " legally Binding ???" Set of points then sent a short resume as a request to join a forum that is for shooting enthusiasts.
I have looked at the adverts " nay! How dare he?? I hear you ask. Not had 15 posts yet and may be just trying to become a buyer / seller of illicit fare).
It seems that with one word I can cause such a stir without intention and even possibly offend people by use of that unmentionable word that is actually a correct turn of phrase.
I am not, by nature a confrontational man so I will in the spirit of the posted "rules" refrain from further comment on said infraction.
I am sure I will in short order be "binned" from the site as a dissenter in the ranks.
My intention was only to tap in to a valuable resource of knowledge as I build and expand my own knowledge as well as the invaluable network of like minded shooters in my local area, however I guess that will now not be.
A sad sad state of affairs
Thank you all one and all.
Rob.
