I have been having problems with case neck run out on my 7mm, it was not consistent and I would see anything from .0005" to .006" or worse which was annoying as I use the same dies (Forster) and process for Christel's 22-47. I picked up a tip from another forum that works. Basically instead of locking the die down tight to the press slip a suitable sized O-Ring onto the die and tighten down on that, this means the die has the ability to move (wobble) very slightly. Testing today immediately took my run-out down to typically under .001" and often better than .0005"
A 2p component saved the day and I am very impressed so thank you very much Mr Taylor.

Re: Reducing case neck run out
I was over visiting Ovenpaa and Christel today and was shown this in action,
I commented that I often get issues when resizing, the die is tight on it's way back out, Ovenpaa gave me a coulpe of O rings and I tried it when I got home and it has helped that issue as well.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Isn't this one of the reasons Lee put O" rings on the locking rings of their dies?
Re: Reducing case neck run out
I always though they did that to act as an alternative locking method but yes I think you are quite right. Thinking about it my Lee dies have always given me excellent run out results.Chapuis wrote:Isn't this one of the reasons Lee put O" rings on the locking rings of their dies?

I can't be bothered to go and look at the Lee reloading manual now but I'm fairly sure that Richard Lee makes a claim for improved alignment due to the O" ring on his dies. While I take some of his claims with a small pinch of salt he's probably telling it straight up on this one.
