Nice twin port 'Enfield.

My current bike, I use it for commuting to work and normally try to get as close to the winter break as possible (Last year I gave up middle December when the ignition key froze in the lock) I then use the car for January as the roads around here are seldom treated. The plan is always to be back on the 'bike by the start of February.

The screen makes a big difference despite being so small, BMW do one to fit however I found a Yamaha screen on eBlag and modified it suit for about 20% of the price :D

I'm more into Cars rather than Motorbikes, but my Son 'Alan Dowds' has written a few Motorbike Textbooks.

Alan Dowds? Well that is a name I recognise. He used to be a very prolific writer/poster however I spend less time looking at the 'bike forums these days so I have not seen anything from him recently.

I have always had an interest in motorbikes from at the age of eleven I found an old moped engine took it home and Dad showed me how to pull it apart, what was inside and how it worked. At one point I was into double figures but a divorce got in the way. I used to restore older stuff and mostly had 1930's to early 50's bikes. I still have a 1946 16H Norton and only recently sold a 1925 996cc V twin Matchless to fund my 4(T)

These last few years I have run BM's (Must be an age thing) Inter spaced with SuperMoto's and Enduro things. Christel and I have ridden many miles across Europe two up on a BM Adventure, our passion was long distance riding which can be addictive and we have often fueled up three times in a day whilst in the wilds of no where. It is an odd feeling to ride in 45C+ temperatures and not see a single person/car/house for over an hour with just the occasional vulture to keep us company.

My son has at long last passed his test and started off with an ex-race Husaberg on the road, wonder who he takes after :D

Up untill last week Alan was Dep Editor at Superbike Magazine,he has now went freelance.

Superbike Magazine has been bought over by a Offshore Company so the rumour has it.

When he stayed with us it was not unusual to find a motorbike engine on the kitchen table and the carbs in the dishwasher.

I hope the new career goes well for him, I used to enjoy his articles.

I have built motorbikes in my bedroom before, had a pre war 350 Enfield in the living room and baked the paint on a set of barrels in my parents brand new cooker whilst they were in town. Motorbikes get in your blood after a while and I cannot imagine life without one.

Did you manage to get him into shooting as well?
