That's wrong mate. Apart from a few of the anti gun States, in the majority of States you can buy a BP gun over the counter and take it home straight away. No paperwork involved as they are not classed as firearms by the Feds.you can buy a BP revolver over the counter too!!!!!!! Just cannot take it home with you

I took it to mean as a visitor to the US you could buy but not take it OUT of the US to the UK
