Greetings All,

Found this forum when looking for reloading data, having had a read I've a feeling I may even know one or two of you :) I used to live in Hertfordshire and shot pistol (before the ban) mainly at Broomhills and shotgun at Lea Valley and Little Amwell G C to name but a few.

Live now on the Costa Blanca where we're still allowed handguns :)

Thanks christel, what's the shooting scene like these days in the UK? I see you're in Bedfordshire, is Broomhills still going?
I remember the guy who ran the club, can't think of his name, talking about closing down when the ban came in, I know he had a clay layout (ISTR it was subsonics only) and did paintball and quadbikes but didn't know if the ground would still be viable.

How did you get on with the Spanish legalities , any problems, do you need to speak the lingo ?

Hi Gazoo, it's not really too difficult, you join a club, shoot club guns, our club has loads of S&W 686s in .22, a couple of times a year the Guardia Civil who administer firearms licencing have a test, as long as you don't shoot anybody you pretty much pass and can apply for a licence.

It helps to speak a bit of Spanish, they love their paperwork and everything is in triplicate with photocopies and rubber stamps.

Shooters are generally a good bunch and the odd language difficulty can always get got around.

If it's of any interest I can go into all the details.

The bad news is that there's no "turn up and have a go" facility at Spanish clubs, to hold a firearms licence you must be a Spanish resident, a non resident can join a club and shoot club guns but you need a permanent address in Spain and an N.I.E. number which is a bit like a UK NI number.

The Spanish authorities are not as daft as they look, my firearms licence number is my NIE number as is my driving licence number and my card to access healthcare, my car registration number is linked to my NIE number so any policeman stopping me in a traffic check is aware I might be carrying guns!
The usual way into clubs here is to go along with a member, the guy running the ranges "doesn't notice" the non member going into a range then after a couple of visits a membership application form is offered.
It's a funny old place :)
