A few nice fixer-uppers there.

There are a fair few folks that have moved back into their old homes inside the exclusion zone and research has shown their quality of life and state of mind is better than that of people that were displaced and have remained outside the exclusion zone. There are plans to start repopulating the outer areas of the exclusion zone in both Ukraine and Belarus.Les wrote:A few nice fixer-uppers there.![]()

They say that home is where the heart is, and that's very true, although I wonder what sort of infrastructure they'll be going back to. I would be surprised if there's any running water or electricity, but no doubt the residents are quite resourceful.

Is there any long term effect of the radiation on the residents who moved back or was the plant more contained that previously thought?

So the answer would be yes or likely yes then? That is the place I don't want to get cancer in (Thyroid). I wonder why Thyroid and not any other kind?snayperskaya wrote:Thyroid cancer is pretty common I think, the article below is worth a readSixshot6 wrote:Is there any long term effect of the radiation on the residents who moved back or was the plant more contained that previously thought?

Because the thyroid gland is the 1st organ in your body to absorb radiation. Even in France the incidence of thyroid problems have statistically jumped-up since the Chernobyl incident. A tip to all you preppers ... potassium iodine saturates the thyroid blocking & reducing the effects of radiation exposure.
Thanks for the link Tovarich
