BR99 Light Primer Strikes

I'm getting light primer strikes on the BR99 with a batch of ammo that was previously fine. It is happening with all four mags. The only thing that is different is it has a different lower (a factory replacement) and a different charging handle (Tooth and Nail oversize), both from Shooting Shed.

Also I have noticed the bolt does not always stay locked back on an empty mag, not sure if that is significant.

Is there anything I can check on my end? I stripped and cleaned the gun carefully after it did it once or twice last time but now it does it every magazine.
The only round that it doesn't do it to is the first one chambered.

Any suggestions?

Check barrel tightness.
What I thought were light strikes was the barrel not being tightened.

Sounds like it is not going into battery.
Something is slowing up the bolt from going fully forward.
Could be a few things you need to look at.
1. is the next shell coming up and catching the bolt going forward
2. strip the gun and check the spring and piston slides smoothly, I had to take sandpaper and remove paint and gunk from the rod.

How often have you cleaned it ?

The barrel is really tight: I have one of those AN coupler spanners and I tightened it up solid.
As far as cleaning is concerned: I cleaned it thoroughly just before this range session. I'll take it apart again tonight and have a look at the spring guide rod for gunk.

I agree, it sounds like it is not coming into battery properly but I can't figure out why. It does it one out of every 5 shots, on average.

I was thinking the same - my Vepr ran perfectly out of the box.

I've an akdal m1919 from cactus arms that eats whole slabs of 28g for breakfast without missing a mouthful. I've seen BR99's do the same though.

I suspect some of the issues are the gun not being held tight enough?

BR99's are also 3-4 times cheaper than a Saiga/Molot/Vepr AND you can actually find them when you want They're still in their infancy, plus they're made by people who think quality control is tin of chocolates you have at christmas

Are you CERTAIN the ammo hasn't changed? When i was running my original lower it would 'light strike' Geco slug every now and again but allegedly a Geco slugs have hard primers. Since changing to the Firebird lower which has a harder hitting hammer it's not been an issue.

If you film the gun cycling (guaranteed it'll not perform the light strike for the camera! ) you should be able to see if its not going into battery as the bolt will twitch forward when the trigger is pulled. Makes it even easier if your camera has a slow-mo mode.

If it looks like it is the hammer strength being the issue I have the T&N upgrade trigger/hammer for the original lower assembly if you want to give that a go.

I have to say my money was on the barrel not being tightened fully, would've lost that bet!
