Another mod question

Just been advised by the FEO I can have a .22 rimfire mod I have two rifles that I want to use mods on, one a GSG-5 which has a sleeve and mod and can collect as soon as ticket is back. The other is a shorten'd barrel M&P 15/22 which I have a lovely over barrel air rifle mod to use on it (won't/can't until my ticket comes back).

So the questions are, do I need two slots for two mods even though they're the same calibre and can I just add the unnamed & unnumbered mod to my licence?

I advise getting two moderators on your ticket, as you are paying the same variation fee.
At least for the S&W 15/22 my advice is to get a proper quality moderator for it. Something like an ASE Utra, if your rifle has a threaded barrel.
If not I would probably get it threaded instead of using an over-barrel moderator.

If you use an air rifle mod on a section one firearm it automatically becomes a section one component, so get a slot added for it. If you let them know when you ask for it they should just be able to add it on to your cert, you can't add it yourself

is the mod on the gsg part of the rifle? or an add on which is removeable?

Strictly speaking, the only time you can write on your own certificate is when you sign it. Hence, you "can't" enter it yourself.

This is one of the arguments against entering your own reloaded ammunition on your own certificate as is being mandated by some firearms departments.

If you import of otherwise cause a firearm (or component) to become licensable you are the one who is responsible for writing it on your FAC.

If you have an air rifle mod and then want to use it for FAC purposes if you have the slot you can add it and then it will be an FAC mod.
I have an original 1853 two band Enfield volunteer rifle that hangs nicely on the wall. When I wanted to shoot it I got the slot and then added it by writing it on and informing the police.
When I have imported rifles in to the UK (legally) I was the one responsible for all the paperwork, proofing (if needed) and informing the police.

Saying you can only sign your own FAC is wrong. There are many occasions when you are responsible for writing on your FAC.

Really, when? Show me where it dictates that you are responsible for writing on your own FAC apart from signing? I imported a rifle that was delivered to me instead of my dealer. Informed the police who were adamant that I didn't write on my own ticket. My FAC was sent to them, who entered it on to the possessed list with a reprint.

Likewise, with s58 placed onto certificate for shooting, HO advice was all that was required was for a signed statement of intent to shoot the antique, submitted with the FAC to have the antique placed on certificate. A paid for or one for one variation would be required. Nothing about you putting it on your own certificate.

Your force may have cut a corner in this regard and that would be a policy decision made at SMT level on how to administer that aspect. Claiming that you can, lawfully, may lead others to follow that flawed thinking.
