AR15 in .22 WMR?

#1 Post by huntervixen »

Afternoon all,

I had a intriguing chat with a US friend the other day regarding CMMG's now discontinued prototype of a .22WMR AR15, ( I assume using an ungraded version of the standard bolt), apparently it functioned "OK", but the higher pressure occasionally caused the base of the case to blow off.... FLASH BOOM!!!

So I got to thinking (dangerous I know), I wonder if a HK style roller delay added to the atchinson bolt design would cure the problem, it would be a relatively simple engineering solution after all..

You could make the bolt heaver to delay extraction, but that I feel would impinge on reliability to much...

I would love to have a Spikes or CMMG chambered in .22WMR more than a lever release .223!

May be worth looking at the ERMA M1 carbines, they made a model in .22WMR apparently worked pretty well, it was gas operated too.

S&B and CCi both make WMR FMJ ammo.

And Bill Alexander of Alexander Arms has been trying to get an AR platform in WMR to run reliably for ages now. He's got one running in .17 HMR but binned the WMR.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

he may need his bumps feeling! with the consistant problems with HMR rounds "squibbing" (is that even a word? if not I claim copyright :p ) I would never trust an autoloader to work with them!

That is the best bet, it just needs either the stock fixing (its oal when fully collapsed is 22.5 inches) a brake welded on the threads that is about 2 inches long or a new uk legal barrel. I mean rudefatdog on their facebook page was on about a uk legal KSG that would be the worst thing to come here. Somebody talk some sense into him or someone else and get us the CMR carbine. It would be ace.
