577/450 Martini Henry shot over a chronograph

Has anyone shot a 577/450 Martini Henry over a chronograph? I would be really interested to know what speeds you got and the load you were using please :)

All I got was 'error'!
Don't know if it was a problem with the chrono or the bloody great cloud of black smoke though!

Funnily enough, I chrono'ed my .577 Snider Enfield last week. I got an average of 945ft/sec using a 520g bullet and about 70g of black.

Some time ago I did run a couple of shots over my Chrony. I had a similar issue of getting an error message. Not sure if it was the smoke or maybe more likely the cotton wool filler I use in my reloads.

Anyway, the results averaged out at 1256 ft/s. This was using 480 grain paper patched bullets ahead of 85 grains (by volume ) of H777. I recall my normal load was 1220 ft/s for 80 grains of the same powder. I don't normally load up to 85 grains as I've read some stories of pressure spikes but I didn't notice anything abnormal and the cases were fine.
However, I now stick to 80 grains as the increase is minimal for the extra powder.

I want to repeat these tests and next time might try the Chrony positioned a little further away to hopefully avoid more error messages.

I would like to try black powder at some point but have to sort out my license first. Will be interesting to see if there is much difference.

I fancy a MH, so no problems using 777 then as although I have a Ruger Old Army I don't have the black powder cert so use Pyrodex without issue.
