Which AR15 Type should I buy ?

#1 Post by qws »

I am looking at purchasing my first Tactical AR15 Type .22LR.

We have a wide choice: S&W MP15-22, H&K G36, CMMG, SIG522, Colt M4 ???. Seems so many to choose from any suggestions.

Want to buy right first time.

Your experiences and suggestions welcome.

Lantac improved CMMG, get the Boonie Packer adapter for the S&W 15-22 mags for full functionality.

Better trigger and accuracy than the others mentioned, fully milspec compatible with all AR accessories, cheaper magazines and will retain more value if you decide to sell it later. Decide you want a a .223? Just buy an upper as you have a lower already.

I've got a 15-22 and have shot all the others mentioned. If you're on a budget, buy a 15-22 standard version. Got a bit more cash buy a CMMG, not much more than the 15-22 MOE and less than the overrated 15-22 performance centre version.

Of course you'll have to wait, as the last lot Lantac had sold out and there is a list to get one from the next batch, best get your name down quick.

What do you want to do with it? Figure that first and go from there!

I have shot a Sig (to heavy) owned a Colt (thin sleeved barrel) and now own a M&P 15-22

On the M&P I have the barrel shortened and use an over barrel mod. I can't see me ever getting rid of it. It was a good price, shoots EVERYTHING I put through it from Eley Subs to CCI, it's accurate and I've got the Kent/SE competition medals to prove it (Oooooo!) It's quick and light and you can change the trigger if you want (I've kept the standard one) and can hang everything but the kitchen sink off it.

I havn't tried any others, so can't comment on them, but the M&P 15-22 is a brilliant little rifle. Accurate, not ammo fussy, simple to work on, and cheap as chips in comparison to the rest. the stock trigger is a little heavy/creepy, but it's easily replaced if you don't like it.

Ideally you'd get to handle a few before deciding...

Don't buy the Colt (Walther), I had one and it was OK for a while but you can't strip it properly to keep it clean which it needs and the trigger is shocking.
