Re: First rifles
Thank you dromia. I was under the impression the full bore clubs seemed more of a closed shop and until I have a FAC they didn't want to know!
Re: First rifles
One thing you failed to mention is whether your £1000 budget needs to cover cost of a scope as well.
First rifles
That's a fair point and again I'd appreciate any advice from the expertise on the forum!
I have a scope I previously used on a air rifle abroad so ideally would quite like to use it on any rifle I initially buy.
It's a besonder optisch 6-24x50 spe. It was fine on a .25 air rifle I owned in Spain but I'm not sure if it will be OK on anything else? I guess I'd also need new mounts too.
Would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: First rifles
Also on a vaguely connected link do you guys recommend asking for moderators on ticket at the same time as initial application? Cheers again!
Re: First rifles
Yes, health and safety.
Re: First rifles
Was wondering as I hardly see anyone with one on at the club I go too. Thanks again
Re: First rifles
It's the same with my club, hardly anyone has one. However Health and Safety is a perfectly valid reason for many police forces.

Re: First rifles
Thats likely because you're going to the Mayfair range which is restricted to .22 and pistol calibres, the benefits of moderators are more keenly felt (literally) on full-bore rifles, so thats where they're more commonly found. At the outdoor range i was at on Sunday almost every rifle had one on other than the historic/old guns.claytont wrote:Was wondering as I hardly see anyone with one on at the club I go too. If you're going to become a member of the Mayfair you might also be interested in trying Practical Shotgun that the club runs at a quarry near High Pittington, ask Dave K or Derek R about it. Its the last Saturday of every month (unless its specifically changed). Great fun, although you would be restricted to using a Section 2 (Shotgun Certificate) shotgun at first (2+1 capacity) due to our daft gun legislation.

Re: First rifles
That looks like a lot of fun. And probable expensive too!
I'm doing my probation at the Mayfair and would hope to stay on there too afterwards as I think it's the closest to my home (North Shields). Plus they have all been very friendly and welcoming.
