Zeroing Ranges
Good Evening,
I'm new to the forum guys so be gentle. I live near Pontefract West Yorkshire and I was wondering where I could take both 17 HMR and 22lr for zeroing at a range with verified distances. Do such places exist?
Regards
Daz

Re: Zeroing Ranges
Yes you are best to find the county range as its more likely to be 100yds so more more suitable - look up club finder on the NSRA web page also ask the NRA & BASC they will know about ranges in your area that might be able to help. - but you either need to go as a prospective member of the club using it, or as a guest of a member of that club, or a club guest day. Having an FAC means they dont need to declare that guest day to the police first or your visit.Daz wrote:Good Evening,

Many small bore ranges can only shoot 22 & on others if you use the light 17grain hmr round you may be above the ranges nominal energy limit & 2070 Joules from memory is a std for outdoor no danger area range. On our range the 23grain round is within velocity & energy (just), the lighter over (a bit).
Also be sensitive to the fact that some smallbore ranges / clubs only shoot 22 target rifle & they can come across a bit offish about people using sporting rifle, shooting other than prone (many 22 ranges are prone only) & using magazines even shooting distances other than 25yds, 50m etc & some about using targets that are 'not black disc'.........yawn..
We have 3-4 members do exactly what you are suggesting, bring own targets different types of ammo, pay range fee & zero their rifles all evening for all sorts of distances from 10m to 100m from a bench or standing. If you lived near here i could invite you on presentation of an FAC & the range fee :-)
Anyone on here from oop North who can elp Daz a bit more?

Huddersfield. 'Yorkshire Shooting Centre' on the Book of Face
good set up, massive backstop so I'm sure that your little .17HMR won't hurt it.

Re: Zeroing Ranges
You might find you'll need a 100 yard range, you can only shoot 17hmr on our 100 and not the 50 due to range certification limits.

North Coates Butts is on the east coast of Lincolnshire so about 70 miles, it is a thriving club with superb facilities and membership fees are very modest for people who are not local. The club has a 25m and 40m outdoor ranges and a 100m tunnel range approved for up to 15000 Joules and best of all it is always open.
Re: Zeroing Ranges
Hi Daz,
Could also try Stead Hall Rifle and Pistol Club near Burley in Wharfedale - it's a 100 yard tunnel range open to non members provided you have a FAC.
