CCI standard velocity is fairly inexpensive, accurate and reliable. Like has been said, best to try all the popular brands and see which suits you and your rifle the best.
I would say avoid Remington Golden Bullet and Thunderbolt ammo, the most inconsistent brand of ammo I've used in the last few years.

Agreed, Thunderbolt seems to be such a dirty round, gunged up a lot of guns in my club.
Re: .22 ammunition
CCI Standard always seems like a superb 25/50m round however I have yet to see truly decent results at 100.

.22 ammunition
I had three years of stunning CCI minimag performance in everything, CZ, 10/22, AR15. Each rifle tested with 5-6 ammo types every time, minimag always won out, though I never shot eley at the time.
Then I had two years where I couldn't find a box that'd shoot straight, shooting it in a tunnel range you could clearly hear the dud rounds going off, zero consistency.
Best rounds I've found now through two semi auto guns are eley force and eley contact, with cci standard a close second.
If you find something that works, buy a much as you're allowed from the same batch is the lesson to be had!

Re: .22 ammunition
As others have said, individual rifles can be picky about ammo, even two rifles of the exact same make and model!
There two have been bad for the majority of shooters at the club:
1) Magtech
2) Remington Thunderbolt
In terms of good ammo, your gun will either like higher velocity ammo or lower. For the faster stuff I have seen good results with these two:
1) CCI mini-mag
2) Eley Force
For the slower rounds these have been good:
1) Eley Sport
2) RWS Target Rifle
3) RWS Semi Auto
4) Lapua Master M (I haven't seen this around for some time).
At the top end of the slow stuff is Eley Tenex, RWS R50 and SK Match. Those have been very good in my rifles but I question the need to spend that kind of money on a semi-auto rifle.
If I was pressed to select a round with the best cost-to-performance ratio for a semi-auto rifle, it would be the Eley Sport (it is quiet through a suppressor also). If your gun doesn't cycle it nicely then go for CCI Mini-mag.

Re: .22 ammunition
Echoing all the above really. I shoot quite a lot of .22 through a match rifle (bolt action anschutz), k22 long barrel pistol and Sig 522 semi auto AR-a-like.
The best for me after a deal of experimentation are:
Eley Match in the anschutz
CCI minimag in the K22
Anything in the Sig,it literally cycles anything...but minimags group well and I appreciate the cleaner nature of them.

Hi Guys.
I shoot a lot of rimfire at targets as well as vermin. I have found that Eley subs and Winchester 42 g subs shoot very well through my CZ452. out to 75 yards they will do inch and a bit wind allowing. Eley club and Match are the best out of my Lithgow, half inch at 50 yards, inch at 75 and just over the inch using the Match at 100 yards. Not bad for rimfire shooting, both my guns are bolt action, i have a 10/22 and that shoot Mini Mags the best, groups of around inch and half at 50 yards again not bad.
You guys are right about the remington ammo its very poor.
