You need to get a winter Afghanka and Ushanka to compliment the SVD.....froggy wrote:Same parts, we were actually very close . What a small world![]()
How did you get on ?
I need to buy some warmer clothes...
I guess it was the same temperature as Countryman . I was wearing a normal t-shirt under a British army Norgi shirt, my Goretex & of course my beautiful "tactical" scarf (actually it's my wife but don't tell or people will make funny comments). We used those awesome Norwegian shirts instead of our issued F1. You can pick-up surplus ones for less than a tenner & they are worth every penny

I know ... I know Tovarich but I am, at the end of the day, a victim of the overfeeding capitalist imperialism that deprives the proletarian masses from the fruits of the labour of the kolkhoz comrades farmers so I can not find one in my size
176-52 in berezhka would make that frog very happy

Berezhka is my favourite, I have a much used but very warm '86-dated Border Guard jacket in that pattern which are quite rare and recently aquired a VSR-93 winter jacket in Dubok (little Oak) three colour pattern, the type commonly worn in Chechnya.froggy wrote:I know ... I was prepared for even colder but I was very comfortable in my Norgie, Swandri Ranger and Ridgeline Monsoon Elite Smock. Hat is important. Cycle shorts, track suit bottoms and Deerhunter Waterproof over trousers. Feet had a pair of cool max thin socks under mid weight hiking socks in Meindl Toronto boots. Shemagh I find very cosy and versatile.
Hands were the only issue. I had a pair of thick thinsulate Barbour gloves which were excellent but my trigger/ bolt hand couldn't work in them so ended up gripping my rifle 6 hours a day bare. I took 3 chemical hand warmers which I was glad of. So I need to address this before next trip.
Have to watch out for condensation on the gun when you bring it inside too.
I did the shoot at Dubi on Saturday and one closer to Kolin on the Thursday with the Friday in between mostly in a sauna in a Spa town. What's not to like?

Many years ago I owned one of these in the UK but had to hand it in, now I own two in Canada. I think they are much nicer rifles than AK's.

They don't have the Ak's "cachet" but I agree, but if you can go past the "legend" aspect, Vz58 are truly great rifles
I love yours with that wood
