Cannot be transferred 'out of proof'. That means sold, lent, given, etc.
Not many know how or where to measure if a shotgun is worn so much, through use or honing, as to be out of proof, or have the equipment to do so. It may still have proof marks on but be out of proof.

My understanding is that it cannot be sold as a WORKING gun, on ticket, out of proof, but what about a steel tube with wood attached which obviously can't be used legally off ticket.

I have a non-proofed pinfire off ticket as a wall hanger, if I wanted to fire it, it should go on ticket but because of the lack of proof marks it will always remain a wall hanger. Is your received wisdom that it may never be sold?

Pinfire =Section 58, surely?

As a pinfire it is an obsolete calibre gun and can be sold as such. It could not be sold as a live firing gun on certificate.
