New member - Full bore ranges in suffolk
Hi guys,
My name is Harry, in new to this forum but pleased to be accepted to join.
I am relatively new to rifle shooting. I am current a probationary member at the 10th battalion club in stanstead (Suffolk) where I am hoping to become a full member allowing me to apply for my FAC to allow me to own and shoot my own .22
I was also wondering if anybody here knows of any clubs near to me (I live near Needham market/Ipswich area) that shoot full bore caliber? I have heard of a club called "Saxons" and by the sound of things they are just down the road from me? I know I am new to the sport and I would not be looking to join until I gain some more experience at my current club, however if I could juggle my weekends to allow me to shoot with a .22 one weekend and a full bore caliber rifle the next then that would be ideal!
Hopefully someone might be able to help out.
Cheers :-) Harry

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Hopefully someone might be able to share some light on the topic or might be able to put me in touch with someone who does?
Thanks again,
Harry

Hi,
I'm fairly new here but am nearby in Ipswich.
As far as Saxon in concerned they are located on the old road at the A14/A140 junction and I have been on the waiting list for over a year now. I think they are full making any application subject to waiting for lapsed membership. They are limited to small bore and pistol calibres though.
For full-bore I have joined Grove Small Arms which gives access to long range full-bore shooting on military ranges.
Grove are easily locatable on the net but don't think Saxon have a site (although I stand to be corrected.)
Unaware of other full bore ranges around this way (again I stand to be corrected.)

Welcome to the forum, I would also suggest The Grove Smallarms and you could also look at Bassingbourn Pistol and Rifle club both are superb clubs that shoot at multiple venues.

Ah ok thanks for that, I didn't realise the Saxons wasn't a a full bore club. I will give the grove club a bell. Thanks again for the advice guys.

Hello and welcome
There are some good ranges in easy drive of you, though finding a club that shoots them regularly will be a requirement (Grove might be your best bet, several of the posters here are members). StanTA and Thetford Gallery, both good full-bore range complexes, and then there is Barton Road on the other side of Cambridge, nice range out to 1200yds or metres (can't remember if it is metric or not). A bit further over is Bassingbourn just to the north of Royston.
Good luck.

Burton Road is sort of Metric :) and back to the hedge is 1200 yards.
