Has anyone tried to rebuild worn polymer magazine feed lips?

#1 Post by 38Super »

Hi All

Just asking before I chuck the worn mags and splash out on some new ones.

Has anyone tried to rebuild or repair worn feed lips on a polymer magazine?

Mags are for a Colt/Umarex M4 .22lr so no steel lipped versions that I know about.

Cheers

Full sized polymer types are classified as disposable....
Any Black Dog options?

If they'd been full 5.56 size I'd have been after them as donor housings for my M261 inserts.
As it is I've utilised a couple of Vietnam era Colt 20-rd types which have boogad up feed lips.

Hope you find something.
(What's that plastic putty/goo stuff, that may work.....or epoxy putty)

What about JB Weld? I've used it extensively for plastic repairs on cars and bikes. Wonderful stuff.

As above, or even just plumbers putty. Amazon has the best prices for JB Weld I've seen

JB Weld is superb stuff and you could think about using it to glue a couple of slivers of hacksaw blade in as wear strips however as the magazines are still readily available it might be better to just invest in another one for the next however many thousand shots.

Do you all use the 'Original' J-B Weld, or one of the many derivatives?

Thanks everyone.

I've thought about the various epoxy putties but don't know which one would stick best (if at all) to the kind of plastic the mags are made of.

I'll probably buy another couple of mags but it seems such a waste to chuck the rest of a perfectly serviceable mag just because of one worn out area. I like the idea of a permanent fix using bedded in hacksaw blades (Thanks Ovenpaa :good: ) which could be worth playing around with.

Now, how do I cut up slivers of hacksaw blade????

Use a Dremel slitting disk or similar with a pair of goggles. Keep a glass of water handy to dip the parts in as they soon heat up.

What about snappable craft knife blades?
