Re: Kobra Collimator Red Dot
It may have been possible to unscrew the rail clamp from the scope, loose fit the clamp to the rail and then reattach the scope to it - nip up the screws and done.Zilberbak wrote:Gutted as won't slide on to side rail as under fold button assembly just fouls it.
Great meeting up though.
Will have to consider Oleg's weaver option unless someone as a bright idea.
Did your under folder have a rail attached when you bought it? Mine doesn't (Rom AKMS clone).

The Russians and Poles fitted a side rail mount to the AKMS underfolder, a version designated the AKMS-N with a special side rail for mounting night vision optics like the 1pn34 and 1pn58.nickb834 wrote:It may have been possible to unscrew the rail clamp from the scope, loose fit the clamp to the rail and then reattach the scope to it - nip up the screws and done.Zilberbak wrote:Gutted as won't slide on to side rail as under fold button assembly just fouls it.

It differed from the standard AKM rail (which is what Oleg fits and are pretty much redundant on an underfolder as the standard Russian type optics mount won't clear the stock release button etc) in the it was thicker and designed specifically for the underfolder, although the vast majority of AKMS rifles had no mount fitted.
Below is a quite rare pic showing a Soviet AKMS-N with the side mount visible.

Re: Kobra Collimator Red Dot
I had Oleg fit a side rail knowing that it would stop the underfold function but l wanted the Arsenal and liked the look of the MP40 stock. The MidWest Industries side mount actually fits on with no issue and locks up tight. I have just finished Dremeling the top groove of the Kobra mount to nothing except two 5mm nibs one at the front and one at the rear and after adjusting the locking clamp can now mount and demount the Kobra and lock it up tight. I would like to acquire a new clamp section at some point to replace the one l "modified" should l need to bring the mount to its original condition . Looks good on top of Arsenal.

Oh l forgot l emailed RS Regulate who were very quick coming back and helpful and they reckon that their system will also fit on which allows optic specific options for ACOG and ring mounts for scopes that brings it tight to the rear dust cover.
