What scope

#1 Post by Rockhopper »

I'm looking for a new spotting scope to replace my old greenkat. My question is what spec is best (on a limited budget of say £120) for shooting up to 100m? With the greenkat at 50 metres I can see the whole target (all six diagrams plus loads around the edges) which I don't think is idea so I imagine I need more magnification? At 100 its almost impossible to see where I'm hitting. I'll also need an angled eyepiece i think.

An angled eye-piece is a good idea if you are using it in the prone position. I'd go for a min of 25x magnification.

£120 unfortunately doesn't buy you much quality and the origin will almost certainly be Chinese.

But, there are plenty secondhand on Ebay - try and go for a make you've heard of.

Hi, yes it'd only be for prone so its the angled eye piece I want mostly - I just want to be sure that anything I buy will be usable for shooting rather than bird watching :-)

I have an old Greenkat that has interchangeble eyes pieces and they swap with my Opticron.

Opticron is still on the go but don't know if their current eye pieces are the same fittings but if they are it could be an option.

Crikey ! At that age you shouldn't be shooting at all then ! You'd need glasses like Jodrell Bank Telescope to make a difference...

No glass in Jodrell Bank telescope as it's a radio telescope!.

Is that for looking at those transistor radio things?

I've heard they are small but didn't think they were that tiny.
