"Who do they plan on shooting?" The correct response would be, bad guys.

Caused a lot of trouble for the last Scottish CC when he did that in Inverness; public wasn't having it!

I'm glad I live in a country where we don't need routine armed police in our towns. I'm glad to see them around our capital and ports but equally glad they are absent from my local Tesco's

There were a pair of armed plods in the pie shop in Brora a couple of years ago when Scotland did the armed police thing.

The local wifies gave them a right handbagging, "Sure are some dangerous sheep around here", "Lost your horse cowboy", "Expecting some pension day riots then" and it went on in that vein 'till a pair of very chagrined plod left with their pies and ice cream.

Armed police like the fire brigade, a complete waste of time and money...........until you actually need them that is!!!
As for happy to have them in the capital and ports, safety first, if they are always where you expect them to be then, AHCMED and his mates will go somewhere else, so the odd change in routine is a good thing. In rural or suburban settings they may seem innocuous but it is showing the flag. Of course the sensible thing to do would be stationed round Lidl and aldi, surely.

The issue for most people that I spoke to about the appearance of armed police on the streets wasn't that they were against it for its own sake but the fact that it was just introduced without any discussion or debate about whether plod should be routinely armed or not.

It was the arrogance of the chief constable that got most people rather than the guns.

I have no issue with armed police

+1 Funny how some people in France started to complain there were not enough armed coppers around the Bataclan & even questioned whether their hand-guns were an adequat match for the lovely muslims' arsenal. French army is now patroling the streets & everybody is happy.

introduced without any discussion or debate

I don't remember being consulted on the level of criminality that is acceptable in a country & I doubt those wingers have either ? Maybe they should try "debate & discussion" with the next violent criminal they meet ? or maybe stop watching the teletubbies because it is about time that the public realise that times have change. The wolfs have been let in among us & the liberal justice seems to be happy with a large number of feral individuals roaming free.

Needless to say that personnaly I actually can not understand either that No-ID business nor that un-armed police non-sense kukkuk
