The notable feature of porcupines? Quills sticking out of their backs. green55

froggy, That is STILL no reason to have one.

We have passports for ID and if you look at say the USA, "land of the free " lol lol - almost EVREYTHING is - "have you "ID sir" NO WAY! "Top up your phone, no problem sir..can I see some ID."..No you darn well can NOT!

Bring in ID cards and you bring in more state surveillance (if that is possible PLUS all the bolt on interference that goes with it, maybe that's for you Europeans but not for "free" people.

They looked at that in the UK before and even set up INTERROGATION CENTRES (how is THAT for a name froggy) for people who were persuaded (scared) into getting them or were dumb enough to go on a state register. I know the French and most of Europe are used to being demanded "PAPERZ PLEEZ" but NOT in the UK, NEVER!

Why SHOULD anyone have an ID card - they are not an item of stock. Just because of illegal immigrants? That is NOT an excuse. Anyway, how come those attacks in Belgium and Paris happended, so much for ID cards.: Look, we LET them in freely yet screw the law abiding who try to follow the system - so ID cards are useless and serve no purpose at all!

If I want an ID card I have a passport.

An ID card does not contain any secret info that you have not already gave for your passport, ie : name, place & DoB, an adress that can actually be obsolete and a photo. It does not have a magic chip that gives away constantly your position the way your CC, debit card or store cards do or for that matter your phone when you use it. By simply typing on your PC your next reply to my post you'll actually be telling "big Brother" far more about you than carrying an ID does.

Since I don't break the law , and that sadly I look old enough to buy alcool & cigarettes, I only ever produce my ID card , even in the US, when crossing borders. However I'd be very happy to produce it if required to the police if it can assist them for whatever reasons, the same way that I produced my driving licence when asked by UK plod. In that respect you are no different from the continentals.

The reason ID cards have not been more efficient to fight terrorism is because the state choose them not to be, ie : at Heathrow for exemple I was requested, quite righthly, to remove a cap by the border officer that just let in a very heavily scarf-head-covered woman in front of me ...

Bearing in mind that a firth of all the world's CCTV cameras are in Britain and that, even without mentioning the NSA's illegal activities on its so-called allies, various LEA, including foreign ones, are legally allowed to snoop on your communications. Therefore, with all due respect, I feel you are seriously deluded in thinking that carrying that little plastified document would actually infringe on your privacy ;)

The Uk is the most watched country in the world and that is WHY we must resist all attempts to impose anothr layer of bullsh1t on us mon ami.

"You do not break the law" - when has that stopped them! I don't have a smart phone / personal tracker or such like. The UK ID card plan was what you said it didn't have - and MORE. Y'see froggy, in the Uk whatever powers are given they are abused time and again.

The missus has an ID card, so much sh1te when it got stolen - and of course it only tales ONE data entry error to screw you up! They are only useful for scraping ice off of windows!

Government is never to be trusted.. it's quite easy to grasp: ID cards morph into "entitlement cards" etc etc! If they want you to have it - do not touch it with a bargepole - if they do NOT want you to have it, then get as much as you can!

UK laws are always warped way beyond their intended use, ALWAYS! .
