If you don't already do so, try placing your right thumb on the recoil shield. (Assuming you are right handed)

---or better still, put your little finger under the grip so that the revolver is effectively sitting on it. This makes sure that you always hold the gun in the same way, shot to shot.

What load are you using. Increased velocity will lower point of impact.

Tried that to not much effect. Used both a .38 case of powder and a 9mm case. Can't remember how many grains off the top of my head.

A .38spl case will hold around 23gns by volume of BP. A 9mm case, around 14. Your loads could come up a bit. The benchmark is around 30gns, but you'll easily have up to 35gns worth of available chamber space to use.

A stouter load will bring your POI down and will probably tighten your group as well...

Get a proper powder measure.

I have tiny hands and my 1858 still seems to have tiny grips and always feels like it wants to tip barrel down. I've found getting a really high grip on it helps.

This seems such a common problem with these pistols (and such a straight forward grip to make) I thought I would have a quick look to see if anyone was making them. Noting much caught my eye, but I did stumble on this - almost bought a tear to my eye.

I've been looking to move into this area of shooting - most of the grips I've seen have been too small for my hand.
I guess one of the pitfalls of manufacturing accurate replicas of western handguns is that back in the days of the originals most people were undernourished and therefore had small hands.

Hmm! Not sure that works. I think it must have been the guy who designed the 1858 (Fordyce Beals) had particularly small hands - none of the other contemporary pistols were as bad. The Rogers & Spencer and Colt have a much more satisfactory grip.

I can't imagine why the grip wasn't changed early on when subsequent batches were produced. There would have been no need to change the frame to hold larger wooden grips.

My 1858 is the Pedersoli Target and it comes with large hand filling grips, it included a second set in the bare wood for finishing to your requirements. I am halfway sanding mine down to give a better fit for my small hands.
