A&A gunsmiths in Skeg do a good job of slicking them up

Kranks carry a wagon load of spares for BP revolvers. Swapping parts out s pretty easy as BP revolvers are not massively complicated.

I've gone down the route of some new parts from kranks and fitted them
Making sure they were all the same size as the old parts
But it still won't index correctly every time the hammers cocked
It will index fine a couple of times then the next time it won't
I'm fairly good with tools and fine workings as I'm an electrical engineer but this has me stumped
I'm sure it's something simple but just can't work it out

Can you be a bit more specific about it not indexing properly, is it jamming anywhere or is it just failing to rotate enough. Does it do this when dry cocking or when firing?

When it comes to indexing and you've replaced the hand, spring, bolt stop, bolt stop spring, then that's pretty much it. You've then got to start looking at wear on the cylinder around the star, or the bolt stop recesses. Possibly even stretched frame. Again, modern BP replicas are cheap on the whole, be careful if it's a run of the mill Italian gun you don't chuck good money at it beyond some spare parts. Good gunsmiths charge accordingly....

When you replace these items they still need fitting I have found. They are certainly not drop in parts.

The last time I replaced a hand and spring the spring had no temper and after a few cockings it no longer protruded through the slot to turn the cylinder.

The "hooks" on the bolt stop that the button on the cock slips off have had to be filed to function after a couple of chambers as there wasn't sufficient clearance to handle any fouling.

So knowing what exactly is happening might help if it is fitting that is required.

I had an issue with an old Remington 1858 with indexing. I bought a replacement timing hand but was still problematic. I had to fettle some with the thin metal spring on the back and the problem was solved.
