Should I buy a GSG 1911

24" and less, a place to discuss all things handgun related, section 7.3. Long barrelled revolvers, long barrelled pistols and section 5. Overseas contributions are more than welcome.

Wow. Sounds like a real dud, mines a tack driver at 25 whereas the GSG's at my club ain't so accurate.

We've found the K22's don't like quite a few brands of ammo (sk,eley) but run like sewing machines on cci, federal and RWS.

I'm using my K22 for gallery comps and I'm soon to pickup a new GSG for practical comps so I'll be able to do a more in depth accuracy comparison.

I'll be getting the barrel alignment cone, guide rod etc kit for the GSG, does anyone know where I can ge the complete kit in the UK? (Guide rod, buffer, alignment cone, end cap, Spring and bushing I think?) there are a couple companies in the states doing full kits for them but I've not seen them in the U.K.

I'm loving my GSG. :good:

Advantages for a leftie are the (fitted by me) Ed Brown full size ambi safety and a flat mainspring housing.
It likes HV ammo best but will run standard velocity.
I use the +4 followers and I made my own +3 bumpers for the mags. Reliability before I messed around with the mags was 100%. After some tweaking/practice I now have 15 round mags. They will hold 16 but won't load easily on a closed slide. Reliability with mini-mag seems to be back to 100% fingerscrossed

Accuracy is plenty good enough for practical. Most of the time I don't notice the barrel length or 'coat-hanger' at all. Strong/weak hand only shooting takes a bit of getting used to though.

Most of all I love the fact that it feels exactly like my old 38Super 1911, fits my hand perfectly, the balance is right and all the controls are instinctively familiar. It would definitely benefit from a trigger job sometime.
I've lost track of how much I've spent on it but it's still significantly less than a standard K-22.

That's pretty much what I found. My K22 is phenomenally accurate - one ragged hole at 20yds if I do my bit. Which I rarely do of course :)

I think the inherent accuracy of the K22 is greater than the GSG - which it should be as it's 1.5 times as expensive. I don't think the supply issues are helping - more people would undoubtedly be using them if they were more readily available.

I picked my K22 over the GSG as it looks and feels a lot nicer. It's largely a fun toy anyway, might as well embrace it :)

Also these additions do not seem to have been adopted by other pistol users across the globe which would suggest that they are not much of an asset in the development of firearms.
You could also say that the SGC Lever Release and CCA MARS System rifles were never seen while we still had centre fire semi-auto rifles in the UK

My K22 is a tack driver, the GSG is made out of cheese, there is a reason it's half the price of a K22. To make the GSG run well it seems that people are spending a lot of cash on them thus moving into K22 money range.
Having said that mine did go for a massive amount of warranty work on the slide which took 4 months to complete....
Now it's back and I'm shooting it again I remember why I got it over the GSG. It a much better gun. The trigger is like glass.

Seconded. GSG is a lot of fun, the new ones are better than the old ones but the K22, after some iris oak teething issues with some of the initial batch, is a significantly superior bit of engineering
