Bullet Lube

#1 Post by davidh195 »

Asking for recommendations which Lube to use in a Lyman 450 lubresizer for wadcutter bullets to be used in a Nitro .357" muzzle loading revolver, a slightly firmer lube because of the handling could be of interest.

I use beeswax and lanolin in all my cast loads.

Smokeless gets more lanolin in the mix and black gets less, but that mixture has worked best out of the many different recipes I've tried. When shooting round balls, I infuse the patches with the stuff to save a step in the field.

Regards,

Josh

Nothing petroleum based
Lyman make a black powder lube but mutton tallow and beeswax 50/50 is great

If you don't want to make your own then I can heartily recommend White Label lubes.

In fact for smokeless I don't bother making my own when White Label is so cheap and effective, I use their 2500 exclusively up to 2,600 fps.

I use 50/50 mix of Beeswax and Vaseline, by volume. Adjust the wax proportion to adjust hardness. Works great for cartridge, .577 Minies and paper patching.
